Health and Safety Policy for ABGM Contracts Ltd

General Statement of Policy

It is the policy of ABGM Contracts Ltd to provide and maintain, so far as is reasonably practicable, safe and healthy working conditions, equipment and systems of work for all our employees, and to provide such information, training and supervision as they need for this purpose. We also accept our responsibility for the health and safety of other people who may be affected by our activities.

It is the policy of ABGM Contracts Ltd to actively encourage a culture of continuous improvement by using client and staff feedback to enhance our operations in accordance with company procedures.

The allocation of duties for safety matters and the particular arrangements that we make to implement the policy are set out below.

The policy will be maintained and reviewed on at least an annual basis to ensure that any changes to the organisation, arrangements or operation of the business are taken into due consideration.

Responsibilities

Overall responsibility for Health and Safety for the company rests with the Health and Safety Manager, who signs this policy as a statement of commitment.

The respective Managing Director/s have a responsibility for ensuring that this policy and the health & safety system of the Company is implemented within each operating unit. Line Management shall conduct periodic inspections of their workplace.

All employees have a responsibility to fully co-operate with supervisors and line managers to achieve a healthy and safe workplace. They have an obligation to take reasonable care of their own health & safety and for the safety of other people who may be affected by their actions or omissions.

Any employee who identifies an actual or potential health or safety problem should draw it to the immediate attention of their Line Manager. All such problems shall be reported to the Health & Safety Manager in accordance with company procedures. The Health & Safety manager is responsible for ensuring that a suitable investigation be conducted.

Line Management will provide Health & Safety training as part of the induction process in accordance with company policy.

Where Line Management identifies additional Health & Safety training requirements, it is the responsibility of the Health & Safety Manager to provide this.

Any site specific responsibilities, for example first aid, fire evacuation, fire drill, etc., shall be displayed at the site and brought to the attention of all site employees.

Health & Safety Arrangements

The company has developed an Integrated Communications System that describes the arrangements that are in place for Health, Safety and welfare of employees. Each location is provided with a maintained copy of the documentation. The Health & Safety element of the system describes:

  • General Safety Issues
  • Safety Management
  • H&S Legislation
  • Electrical
  • Specific Issues
  • Fire
  • Contractors

These procedures define the policies, rules, safety checklists, safe systems of work and routines to assist in the safe operation of the business.

Hazards

During contract negotiations, specific safety requirements for each site will be reviewed. As a minimum the Contract Health & Safety Checklist will be completed to ensure that all hazards associated with the work to be conducted have been identified and assessed. Where deemed necessary specific risk assessments shall be prepared and communicated to employees. A safety plan shall be developed and maintained for all contracts managed under CDM.

Details of risk assessments are held by Line Management and shall be communicated to employees through induction training and toolbox talks.

Communication and Advice

This Health & Safety Policy will be communicated to each and every employee through the use of induction training and/or toolbox talks. All employees are encouraged to communicate any health & safety issue directly with their Line Management in order that the procedures and operations of the company can be maintained and enhanced to provide a healthy and safe working environment.

This policy will be displayed at each location where the company operate.
